In view of falling borders and common markets the EU decided in 1993 to establish a network called EURES (European Employment Services). The aim of EURES ist to promote the cross-boarder mobility of labour within Europe.
For this reason public employment services in 29 countries have set up a network with about 700 placement centers. Since the ratification of the bilateral agreement of Free Movement of Persons Switzerland - although no member of the EU - participates in this network. EURES is of great importance especially in cross-border regions.
