On 1 June 2007 the ceiling for immigrants from the previous EU15 countries was lifted. Nationals from Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Luxemburg, the Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, United Kingdom are granted the same treatment as Swiss nationals with regard to residence provisions and access to the labour market.
Short-term residents of up to three months, as well as service providers whose companies are domiciled in an EU/EFTA country, no longer require any permit for their activities in Switzerland. They will simply be obliged to register, which is also possible through the Internet.
This regulation also extends to nationals from Lichtenstein, Norway and Iceland, as well as Cyprus and Malta, but not yet to all the new EU countries.
